There are booths you visit because they’re on your list.

Then there are booths that become part of your Comic-Con tradition.

For me, Shout! Studios has been that booth since my very first San Diego Comic-Con in 2002.

Over the years, I’ve picked up countless pieces of physical media there, but two purchases stand above the rest. In 2002, I discovered what I still consider one of the greatest cult films ever made, Six String Samurai, on DVD. If you’ve never seen it, do yourself a favor and track it down. It’s an absolute gem. Then, in 2016, I proudly walked away with Shout!’s Blu-ray release of The Transformers: The Movie, complete with an exclusive Comic-Con poster that still has a place in my collection.

Those two movies couldn’t be more different.

One is an under-the-radar cult classic that deserves a much bigger audience. The other is one of the defining animated films of an entire generation.

That’s what has always impressed me about Shout! Studios. They aren’t simply selling movies. They’re curating pop culture. Whether it’s restoring forgotten cult classics, preserving beloved animation, celebrating Hong Kong action cinema, or producing beautiful collector’s editions of the films we grew up with, they’ve consistently treated genre entertainment with the respect it deserves.
