Gundam Is About to Change Again, and San Diego Comic-Con Will Be the First Place to See It

For more than four decades, Gundam has reinvented itself without ever losing sight of what made it legendary. Every new series becomes a jumping-on point for new fans while longtime builders and anime veterans eagerly debate every new mobile suit design.

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con looks like it could be one of those milestone moments.

Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced that SDCC 2026 will host the world debut of an all-new Gundam anime during the:

GUNDAM Showcase 2026: Unveil the Next Gundam Panel

Thursday, July 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. PT in Room 6BCF.

The presentation will feature special guests from Japan as they officially introduce the next chapter in the Gundam universe and reveal what’s ahead for the franchise.

If you’re lucky enough to make it into the room, Bandai Namco is rewarding early arrivals with one of the stronger panel giveaway bags we’ve seen this year. While supplies last, attendees will receive exclusive Gundam collectibles including:

  • “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe” mini poster
  • Exclusive T-shirt
  • GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT promotional trading card
  • Inflatable Beam Saber
  • 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Workshop Kit Version
  • Gunpla shopping bag
  • Gundam headband
  • Gundam introductory booklet

The Gundam Booth

Even if you don’t score a seat at the panel, the Gundam booth will be one of the convention’s must-visit destinations.

Fans can get an up-close look at the newly announced anime, preview the recently revealed GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT video game, browse exclusive merchandise, and snap photos with Gundam statues and the always-popular GUNPLA-kun.

Expect event-exclusive figures, Gunpla kits, and additional giveaways throughout the convention.

Build Your Own Gundam

One of our favorite traditions is returning once again.

The free GUNPLA Workshop gives fans the chance to assemble their very own model kit from start to finish before taking it home.

The workshops begin approximately 30 minutes after exhibit hall doors open each day in Mezzanine 19.

Admission is free, but seating is first come, first served, so plan accordingly if it’s high on your Comic-Con checklist.

Can’t Make It to San Diego?

Bandai Namco hasn’t forgotten international fans.

Immediately following the SDCC reveal, GUNDAM CHANNEL INTL will stream a special presentation covering the newly announced anime and all of the major announcements made during the panel.

The stream begins Thursday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. Pacific / 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

It’s worth noting this is not a live stream or recording of the Comic-Con panel itself, but a separate presentation covering the same announcements.

Why We’re Excited

One thing we’ve always appreciated about Gundam is that every generation gets its own defining series.

Whether your gateway was the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Wing, SEED, Iron-Blooded Orphans, The Witch from Mercury, or something in between, there’s something special about witnessing the birth of the next era alongside thousands of fans at Comic-Con.

We’ll be on the ground all week at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, bringing you the biggest news, exclusive interviews, panel coverage, and behind-the-scenes moments from the convention floor and inside the press rooms.
