Meanwhile on Saturday Morning Cereal…Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we celebrate 40 years of Industrial Light & Magic Creating the Impossible with Digital Supervisor Glen McIntosh and celebrate the life of Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into the Darkness, Terminator Salvation) with one of his greatest fans, the original “Checkov” Walter Koenig (Star Trek, Babylon 5).
All this started by meeting Glen McIntosh while at the Sideshow booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 when he tells us about his blue-screen raptor pantomime work in the summer blockbuster, Jurassic World. Inspired by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, Glen McIntosh has been in the film and animation business for almost twenty five years. In 1998 Glen had the opportunity to turn his dreams into reality and was hired by Industrial Light & Magic. At ILM, Glen McIntosh was instrumental in the character animation for George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episodes 1–3 including the SFX genre defining Jar Jar Binks and as C3-P0 in the Star Tours 3D: The Adventure Continues ride at Disney. His additional credits include “Animator”, “Character Animator”, “Sequence Animator”, “Lead Character Animator” and “Visual Effects Animation Supervisor” for Jurassic Park III (as the lead raptor animator). Additional credits include but not limited to; Hulk, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial Special Edition, War of The Worlds, Transformers, Dark of the Moon, Revenge of the Fallen and numerous commercials including the Honeycomb cereal commercial “Purse Snatcher” we sampled.
