🥣 Season 13, Episode 8
Remember your first happy hour? Saturday mornings — when you’d wake up with the sun, grab a bowl of chocolatey cereal, and lose yourself in a world of cartoons, commercials, and pure, unfiltered joy. We’re still chasing that feeling, one episode at a time.
Holy POWcast, Batman!
On this special 6/6 release of Saturday Morning Cereal, Grim Shea, Marke, resident Batman ‘66 expert and cosplayer Jimmy the Gent Leszczynski, and Johnny Heck kick off a year-long celebration of the Caped Crusader’s most colorful era with the first installment of our new POWcast series.
To launch the celebration, we’re joined by psychologist, author, and longtime Batman expert Dr. Travis Langley for a deep dive into the enduring legacy and psychology of Batman ’66.
From the moment the iconic Adam West series hit television screens, Batman became more than just a superhero. For generations of fans, Batman ’66 was their first introduction to Gotham City, the Batmobile, and a rogues gallery unlike any other in popular culture. But beneath the colorful costumes, giant props, death traps, and legendary “BAM!” and “POW!” sound effects lies a surprisingly rich psychological world.
Dr. Langley helps us explore what makes Batman such a timeless character, why his villains continue to captivate audiences decades later, and how the optimistic world of Batman ’66 differs from the darker interpretations that followed.
Along the way we discuss:
• Why children often took Batman ’66 completely seriously while adults enjoyed the camp
• The psychological thread connecting every version of Batman
• The enduring appeal of Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, King Tut, and Mr. Freeze
• Why Batman’s greatest battles are often psychological rather than physical
• How Batman ’66 influenced the comic books themselves
• Alfred’s evolution from faithful butler to beloved father figure
• Why the optimism of Batman ’66 remains just as important today as the darker versions that followed
Plus, Dr. Langley shares personal stories about growing up with Batman, explains why some villains work in certain Bat-universes but not others, and makes the case that Batman ’66 deserves far more respect than it often receives.
Whether you grew up racing home from school to watch Batman and Robin scale walls, discovered the series through afternoon reruns, or simply want to understand why the Dynamic Duo still matter nearly sixty years later, this episode is packed with nostalgia, psychology, comic book history, and plenty of laughs.
We’re releasing this episode intentionally on 6/6 because there was simply no better day to celebrate Batman ‘66 and begin our year-long journey through Gotham’s brightest, boldest era. Expect more POWcast episodes throughout the year as we continue exploring the characters, stories, creators, and cultural impact of Batman ’66.
Holy podcast, Batman… this one was worth waiting 60 years for.
Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel.
