A Heck of A Preview/Review
PREDATOR: LIFE AND DEATH #1
(CHRIS WARNER VARIANT COVER)
Colonial Marines, Predators, and a taste of what’s to come in Predator: Life and Death #1. Spoiler: there’s plenty of death.
The first of a four part series from Dark Horse, P:L&D has our favorite Alien-fighting marines sent to investigate a relatively mundane planetary environmental concern. All should go according to plan, right? After all, Weyland-Yutani is calling the shots.
Writer Dan Abnett and artists Brian Thies and Rain Beredo take you on a familiar ride calling back the big screen stalwart heroes of Aliens and gritty jungle locale in Predator. It all seems eerily familiar and I was glad to be back in this world. The curious unease and obvious subterfuge of the mission kept me on edge.
As your soaking in the awesomeness of the issue’s big reveal, a thermal vision panel tells you the marines are about to have a bad day.
The issue is fast-paced and hits enough plot points so it doesn’t feel rushed. Make no mistake, this is the pre-game warmup. The players are taking the field. Grab a drink and take your seat.
Best lines: “…your face is getting bright.” “You got red spots…” “Where? on my face?” FTOOM!
